The Peddler Bike Shop was established in 1971 by Dan Lamontagne after he graduated from Christian Brothers College. He was riding the wave of Eddy Merckx who was winning a lot of races at the time. Dan started his business with a bunch of Raleigh bicycles from his uncle's shop brought down from Chicopee, MA. The VW Microbus broke down three times on the way from MA to the original 3573 Southern Avenue location. John McCombs came to the Peddler in 1985 and managed the Raleigh store before opening the Germantown location in 1986. Hal Mabray came to the Peddler in 1986 and soon became manager of the Southern Ave location. Today Hal Mabray is the owner of Peddler Bike Shop.

We were voted Best Bike Shop in Memphis because we believe in bikes. Our 5 certified fit technicians have over 40 years of combined experience on road, tri, mountain, touring, and commuting bicycles. The service techs in our two stores can claim a similar amount of experience performing every task imaginable on every variety of bike imaginable, there was even this weird rickshaw thing that had been brought over from Indonesia...). From the simplest flat fix all the way to suspension work and expert wheel building, the Peddler can fix whatever may ail your bike.
The Peddler Bike Shop lends support to 4 race teams, 4 cycling clubs, and 2 bicycle cooperatives and we have supplied the University of Memphis with over 50 rental bikes. But we're not just here for the hardcore riders; we have families of our own so we know the simple joy of a nice relaxing family ride on the bike path with the kids. We want our children to grow up in cycling friendly communities. As a result of our devotion to helping the Mid-South become more cycling-friendly, we support and have been recognized by organizations like Livable Memphis, Walk/Bike Memphis, Meritan, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Junior League of Memphis, St. Jude, and even Tennessee State Senators. We have been to Washington, D.C. to discuss with our State Representatives the importance of bicycling in our local, regional and state economies. So no matter what kind of riding you and your family want to do, come talk to the Peddler Bike Shop family and we'll help you find the best bikes and gear available.
